The Collections Call Dilemma
You get a call from a debt collector about a medical bill from three years ago that you don’t remember and don’t have records for. They’re pressuring you to make a payment today, or they “will be forced to file a lawsuit”. Something about the call feels off, but it’s the weekend so you can’t call the doctor’s office named on the bill.
What do you do?
Follow-Up Questions
- Why did you make that choice?
- What information would be helpful before taking action?
- What could happen if you paid immediately?
- What could happen if you ignore the situation?
Present the scenario to your teen or preteen. Get his/her response. Discuss the response. Share in the comments section.
